A car service is one of those things where the difference between good and bad work is largely invisible until it isn't. The wrong oil specification doesn't immediately destroy an engine — it does it slowly, over thousands of kilometres, until a bearing fails or turbo seizes at 80,000km instead of 200,000km. By then, nobody connects it back to the service two years ago.
This is the problem with the "cheapest service in Ranchi" approach. You're not paying less — you're paying differently, with a deferred cost that comes later and hits harder.
What Most Ranchi Garages Get Wrong
- Generic 10W-40 mineral oil regardless of manufacturer specification
- No digital inspection — just a visual check and conversation
- Duplicate or aftermarket-grade filters and parts
- No documentation — no record of what was done or found
- Torque by feel, not by specification
- No reading of fault codes before and after service
- Same oil spec for every car regardless of engine type
- Liqui Moly or Motul — correct specification for your engine (BMW LL-04, VW 507.00, MB 229.5, etc.)
- Digital inspection with photographic record — every item documented
- OEM or OEM-equivalent parts only
- Full service report with timestamped photos — you keep a copy
- All torque specifications followed — fasteners tightened correctly
- Fault code scan before and after — no hidden issues left undisclosed
- Oil viscosity and specification matched precisely to your engine and climate
Why the Wrong Oil Damages Your Engine
Modern engines — particularly turbocharged petrols and diesel engines — are engineered around specific oil viscosities and additive packages. A BMW B48 engine requires a BMW LL-04 or LL-17 FE+ approved oil. A VW 2.0 TDI DPF engine requires a VW 507.00 low-SAPS oil. Using a generic 10W-40 in either of these engines does real damage over time.
- Turbo damage — turbos spin at up to 200,000 RPM. They need oil that flows immediately on cold start and maintains viscosity at extreme heat. Generic mineral oil does neither adequately.
- DPF clogging — diesel particulate filters are destroyed by high-sulphur oils (generic oils). Low-SAPS oils (VW 507.00, MB 229.51) exist specifically to protect them.
- Chain stretch acceleration — timing chains in engines like the BMW N47 and VW EA888 require specific oil viscosities to maintain hydraulic tensioner pressure. Wrong viscosity accelerates chain wear.
- Variable valve timing failure — VANOS, VTEC, and VVT systems are hydraulically controlled by engine oil. Incorrect viscosity affects their response and eventually their reliability.
At JH Performance Studio, every service starts with identifying your exact engine code and specification — then selecting the correct Liqui Moly or Motul grade with the manufacturer approval your engine requires. Not the cheapest oil on the shelf. The correct oil for your car.
The Digital Inspection Standard
Every car that comes in for service at JH Performance Studio goes through a digital inspection — a systematic photographic check of the vehicle's key wear items and fluid levels, documented with timestamps and stored for your records.
- Brake pad thickness — photographed and measured, not just estimated by feel
- Tyre condition and tread depth — all four corners documented
- Fluid levels — coolant, brake fluid, power steering, washer — checked and photographed
- Suspension components — visual inspection of bushes, ball joints, shock absorber condition
- Belts and hoses — auxiliary belt and coolant hose condition assessed
- Fault code scan — OBD-II diagnostic scan before and after service, any faults noted in your report
You receive the full report. You can see exactly what was found, what was done, and what might need attention at the next service. No surprises, no guesswork, no "we noticed this on the way out" upselling without documentation.
Servicing for Performance & Track Use
For modified or performance vehicles, we offer additional service items that standard garages simply can't provide:
- Track-day preparation — brake fluid flush (racing fluid for high-temp resistance), tyre pressure optimisation, suspension check, alignment verification
- Post-modification service — after ECU remap or hardware upgrade, a service inspection to verify everything is performing correctly
- Gear oil and differential oil — Motul gear oils for DSG, manual, and limited-slip differentials
- Coolant system service — full drain and fill with correct premixed coolant, critical for turbocharged engines that run at high coolant temperatures
